Fuel Good Day 2024
ActionsThank you for helping us Fuel Good!
Co-op members and customers recently pumped up the community.
On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, 10 ¢ per litre of fuel was shared between three local Fuel Good Day recipients. Our 2024 recipients are the Clearwater Memorial Playground Project, Portage Friendship Centre's "Tools for School" program and the Visions of Independence independent living programs.
Thanks to your support on September 17th, Homestead Co-op has donated $3,500 each to Carman’s Clearwater Memorial Playground Project, with wheelchair accessible playground equipment, Visions of Independence and the Portage Friendship Centre’s Tools for School Program in partnership with the local United Way and the Portage School Division, for a total of $10,500 as part of Fuel Good Day. During that day, 10 cents from every litre of gasoline and diesel that was purchased at Homestead Co-op Gas Bars were donated to these groups.
Clearwater Memorial Playground Project
The Carman and Community Chamber of Commerce together with the Town of Carman, Carman Wellness Connections, Boyne River Keepers and Communities in Bloom are collaborating and working together on the Clearwater Memorial Playground Project. This initiative aims to create a wheelchair-accessible playground that will serve as a safe haven for all children in our Carman community. The playground will include a memorial sculpture in honour of Amanda Clearwater and her children and niece. The funds from Fuel Good Day will help to further the progress of this heartening project.
Portage Friendship Centre & the Local United Way
The Portage Friendship Centre is a non profit organization committed to becoming self-sufficient and to continuing cultural, spiritual and educational programming thereby promoting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being of Urban Aboriginal people. The proceeds from Fuel Good Day will help fund the “Tools for School Program”. The Portage Friendship Centre has partnered with the United Way and met with the Portage School Division to identify gaps and needs within the schools to make sure the children have the right “tools for school” to succeed each year.
Visions of Independence
Visions of Independence provides residential, respite, day and supported independent living programs in Austin, Carman, Portage la Prairie, St. Claude and Winnipeg, MB to people with intellectual disabilities. Proceeds from Fuel Good Day will be directed towards programming efforts to enhance the opportunity for the people that are supported, and their staff, to be able to get out into the community.
